God Made

Workout: lower body strength/abs/1 mile run

A few days ago on our daily walk I decided to incorporate some learning activities on our stroll to make it more fun.  With there being so much plant life every few feet I started talking about  the plants and how God made them all.  I tried to sound excited, and I wanted Lyla to get really into it.  To make it even more fun I decided to take pictures so we could print them and make a collage of all the neat plants God made.
Here was our first stop....the mini palm tree.  I had to force her over to the tree.  Then, she wouldn't look at me for a picture, and she threw a little tantrum.  The "lesson" portion of our walk very quickly got thrown out the window.
The next day as we set out Lyla started doing her normal jumping around and picking at every rock, stick, and blade of grass that lay on the sidewalk.  Then, she looks at me and says, "Hey mom, why don't we look at all the things God made?"
She noticed the bushes that God made.
And the beautiful grass, too!!

I couldn't believe how excited she was about finding all the things God made!!  She had actually been listening the day before :)  I'm also trying to teach her about our communities' ecosystem and how different it is from where we used to live.  Now when we go outside she is ALWAYS looking for things God made.  Occasionally she will point things out that aren't correct, such as, a house or a car.  But she is learning which is really cool!

Summer Races

Workout:  3 miles easy - 100% humidity and dew point of 76!!  UGH!! Since fall is here in just a few days I thought I should throw my summer races up on the blog while it is still officially summer!!;) I was pumped about my summer races.  I had a good workout plan in my mind, and I was going to break 23 minutes!!  I was so determined!  Well, I thought I was so determined.  But, I guess I wasn't that  determined because things fell apart pretty quick.  There was vacation, and then our cruise, and then traveling up to Illinois.  And although I could have run during all these events, well,  I didn't.  OOPS!! Fisher Fair 5k I ran this race with my brother, and this was his first race in 20 years!!  It was really cool to run it with him, and to see him get back into running.  I actually only ran "with him" for about 7 steps, and then he took off. Mile 1 -7:34  Yeah, way too fast.  I'm actually pretty good a...

A little mommy rant!

Workout: HIIT download/2mile run Okay moms, I hate being bombarded in every parent's magazine and internet article about all these super star moms.  You know, the moms  that feed their kids organic food, only let their children play educational games, and make their two year old do service projects. You can judge and put your nose up in the air about me, but that is totally okay, because I judge you, too!!!   Seriously, I want to throw my greasy hamburger in their face and tell them to shove it.  My kids are awesome, healthy, happy, and enjoy life.  And I enjoy the things I do being their mom.  It is totally okay to: 1.   let my kids eat McDonald's french fries.  2.   let my children watch cartoons....right smack dab in front of the t.v.  3.  Allow them to drink  a late night polar pop!!  I believe this is Dr. Pepper. 4.  iPad games instead of story time at bed!! I don't care that these things...

Running on a break

Workout:  30 minute run - 10 minutes easy, 15 minutes hard, 5 minutes easy.  Ab work Running I decided to take a break from running.  My knee had been bothering me, and all my runs felt sluggish.  After a lot of going back and forth I decided that maybe a little bit of a running break was what I needed.  The funny thing is that I am kinda still running while "on a break".  So, the day after I decided to take a break I signed up for 2 races.  Oops!  Ok, one race isn't until December so that doesn't count.  But, the other race is this Saturday.  I have been running 2 - 3 days a week.  Just easy 25-30 minute runs.  Basically, just enough survive the 5K.  The race should pretty much be torture.  I am NOT in race shape at all!  And it has been HOT!! Yeah!!  I'm talking sweat dripping, eyes burning, seriously can't see a thing HOT!!!  I would have jumped in the lake behind me here,  but I saw a m...
