Bastille Day 5K

Workout: 2.5 mile run

One of my talents is that I'm pretty good at persuading people to try new things.  This last effort of mine actually took a couple of years, but after many phone calls I FINALLY talked my SIL, Bekah, into running her first race ever!!!  We chose the Bastille Day 5K which was held right across from Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago.  I thought this was a good choice because of the location and because it was an evening race.  How cool!!  Here is how everything went down:
Our pre-race meal.  We ate at RJ Grunts and our dinners were huge!!  This was only about 2 hours until race time, and guess what?  I ate two meals!!  The waitress brought me out the wrong order, but I had already finished most of the first meal.  She gave me the second meal and I ate that, too.  Yeah, I was regretting that around mile 2.  *Note to all:  This is not a habit of mine, eating LARGE portions of food before a race.  I'm not really sure what we were thinking.
You go girll!  Stretch those calfs.  Don't want to pull a muscle :) By the way, those little tight bootie shorts are her HUSBANDS!  Ha ha ha ha!!

Bekah, are you sure a man can fit into those shorts??
Obviously not from the race.  But all of the post race pictures are on Bekah's phone b/c mine died.  However, go fan Studio Rebekah Photography on Facebook if you haven't already.  This is Bekah's studio and it is sooooo adorable!!  She rocks at what she does.

Okay, back to the race.  We were packed like sardines the first mile and it was pretty much impossible to run together so we gave up just before mile 1 and went at our own paces.  I don't know her official time, but she was only about 2 minutes behind me and she ran 9:30 miles.  That is outstanding for someone who hardly ever runs!!  Bekah, I'm so proud of you for running and finishing your first race!!  Thanks for one last hooray before I left.  Hopefully your next race will be in FL :)

Workout:  8 miles/1:25:02 It takes 9 months to put the weight on, and it took 9 months and 6 days to get the weight off.  FINALLY!!!!!!  I am at my pre-Orlando weight.  I gained 40 whopping pounds during my second pregnancy, and I am ecstatic to say that I have now lost 41.  I worked extremely hard to get that darn baby weight off, and there were several times I didn't think I was going to be able to do it.  Thankfully, my determination won in the end.  I have expressed before on my blog that I am not a healthy eater.  Junk food is my good friend, and fruits and veggies are evil gross!! (Okay, not ALL fruits, but pretty much ALL veggies are evil.) So how did I do it?  I cut out a lot of carbs.  Not completely, but I closely monitored my carb intake.  I limited my Coke and McDonald's Sweet Tea splurges and tried to drink these sugary beverages only on weekends.  I discovered Crystal Light Pink Lemonade which I drink during th...

Setting Goals

I'm always setting goals for myself.  Running goals, nutritional goals, cleaning goals, etc. (That last one is always a challenge.)  I set goals so I have something to work towards; an everyday challenge to conquer.  A couple of weeks ago I thought about what type of new goals I wanted to make.  I started by thinking of a running goal.  I needed something that would be challenging, yet achievable.  I decided I would challenge myself by trying to run at least 20 miles a week. Next, I wanted to set some nutritional goals.  Anyone close to me knows that I eat like crap.  Total crap!  In fact, I honestly can not remember the last time I had a piece of fruit.  I have just a few more pounds of baby weight to lose and I know eating better would definitely get it off.  So I set a goal to make wiser food choices and cut back on my snacking.  But late in the week I discovered a couple things about my goals. The first is, don't make ru...

A little mommy rant!

Workout: HIIT download/2mile run Okay moms, I hate being bombarded in every parent's magazine and internet article about all these super star moms.  You know, the moms  that feed their kids organic food, only let their children play educational games, and make their two year old do service projects. You can judge and put your nose up in the air about me, but that is totally okay, because I judge you, too!!!   Seriously, I want to throw my greasy hamburger in their face and tell them to shove it.  My kids are awesome, healthy, happy, and enjoy life.  And I enjoy the things I do being their mom.  It is totally okay to: 1.   let my kids eat McDonald's french fries.  2.   let my children watch cartoons....right smack dab in front of the t.v.  3.  Allow them to drink  a late night polar pop!!  I believe this is Dr. Pepper. 4.  iPad games instead of story time at bed!! I don't care that these things...
