Summer Races

Workout:  3 miles easy - 100% humidity and dew point of 76!!  UGH!!

Since fall is here in just a few days I thought I should throw my summer races up on the blog while it is still officially summer!!;)

I was pumped about my summer races.  I had a good workout plan in my mind, and I was going to break 23 minutes!!  I was so determined!  Well, I thought I was so determined.  But, I guess I wasn't that determined because things fell apart pretty quick.  There was vacation, and then our cruise, and then traveling up to Illinois.  And although I could have run during all these events, well,  I didn't.  OOPS!!

Fisher Fair 5k

I ran this race with my brother, and this was his first race in 20 years!!  It was really cool to run it with him, and to see him get back into running.  I actually only ran "with him" for about 7 steps, and then he took off.

Mile 1 -7:34  Yeah, way too fast.  I'm actually pretty good at that going out too fast thing.

Mile 2 - 8:12  Wow!  This was just UGLY!!  All of that not running stuff really came to bite me in the butt.

Mile 3 - 8:20  I refused to look at my Garmin this mile.  I thought for sure I was running around a 9:30 mile.

Mile .08 - :33 (7:27 pace)  At least I had a little kick in me.

Good grief, that was one crap race!  I pretty much knew it would be since I hadn't run hardly at all.  On a positive note I thought the course was great.  Nice and flat!  This was my first time running this race, and I would definitely do it again.

Official 24:40, 8:01 pace.  I actually ended up getting 2nd in my age group!  That is always fun!!

AND, my bro did awesome.  He pulled off a 21:56 with very little training!!

I don't have any pictures of this race except this post race cruising home pic.  *SIGH*  Hopefully I can run it again next summer, and I will get more pictures!;)

Big 10 5K

I'm going to go from 1 picture to picture overload!!

This was the second time Matt and I have run this race.  My little sister and her husband ran it for the first time this year.  There are so many cool features to this race.  First, you gotta love the school specific tee!  The location is amazing.  The food and the freebies are top notch.  And the atmosphere is just plain crazy!!

The 10k started first which was perfect.  It gave us time to head to the school tents and load up on the freebies before the herds gathered, and the stinky nasty smells of sweat flooded the streets!  So, I guess this is some well known bucket amongst IU and Purdue fans.  It is the Old Oaken Bucket, and it goes to the winner of the IU/Purdue football game every year.  I don't know.  Matt was stoked to get a picture with it :)

Our traditional little pre-race selfie.  Thankfully, we all started in the same corral.  It was nice waiting for the start with them all!  I had absolutely no expectations going into this race.  Zero!!  That really never happens.  I was super excited to be running, but my only goal was to not let my little sister beat me!!

Mile 1 - 8:14  Except it wasn't an 8:14.  My Garmin lost signal in the McCormick tunnel, and I think my sister said we were around 7:50.

Mile 2 - 7:58  Aaaaaand, my sister ran away, and I just couldn't keep up.  It was HOT!!!  I realize it was hot for everyone.  But, I was out of shape AND hot.  Not a good combo!

Mile 3 - 8:29  I physically gave up.  I had a really bad attitude this mile.

Mile .07 - :27

Final: 25:10 (8:06 pace)

Another ugly race.  Eek!!  And I failed at my one and only goal.  *Big, big, SIGH*  I did pull off some decent placing which made me feel a little better.  Overall 222 out of 4076.  And 5 out of 223 in my age group!

Here is our crew!!  My cousin, Stacy, ran the 10k.  Then, me, Matt, Joel, and Natalie ran the 5k.

This race is always fun!  Chicago is such a great city, and the Big 10 is such a big part of our family.  It's a win/win!!  Hope to be back next year!

Workout:  8 miles/1:25:02 It takes 9 months to put the weight on, and it took 9 months and 6 days to get the weight off.  FINALLY!!!!!!  I am at my pre-Orlando weight.  I gained 40 whopping pounds during my second pregnancy, and I am ecstatic to say that I have now lost 41.  I worked extremely hard to get that darn baby weight off, and there were several times I didn't think I was going to be able to do it.  Thankfully, my determination won in the end.  I have expressed before on my blog that I am not a healthy eater.  Junk food is my good friend, and fruits and veggies are evil gross!! (Okay, not ALL fruits, but pretty much ALL veggies are evil.) So how did I do it?  I cut out a lot of carbs.  Not completely, but I closely monitored my carb intake.  I limited my Coke and McDonald's Sweet Tea splurges and tried to drink these sugary beverages only on weekends.  I discovered Crystal Light Pink Lemonade which I drink during the week instead.  I stopped buying chips....complete

Pregnancy, Fitness, and Food

Workout:  None...yet.  But I might later.  Which is what I've been saying everyday for about the past 3 weeks!!! Hey, you all!!!!!  Guess who decided to reappear?!?!  And guess what I've been up to?  Just cooking up a little boy in this belly of mine! So, I'm 30 weeks pregnant, (31 according to the docs, but whatever) and NOTHING has gone as planned.  And when I say NOTHING I am referring to diet and exercise.  First, I had plans of running as long as I could.  My goal was to run to at least 32 - 34 weeks pregnant.  I made it to 6 weeks, folks.    6 WEEKS!!!  Then, the morning sickness hit, and it hit hard!!!!  I was sick all day and all night.  I was so crazy miserable.  And it didn't go away at the end of the first trimester.  It lasted a good 18 weeks!  Once I started feeling better I decided to just work on staying toned.  I was in the gym lifting weights about 3 days a week.  And that lasted an entire month!! That was a good month.  Pretty much the on

Kick Him in the Face REAL Hard!

Now, remember, this made the list of top 10 things I hate.  And wouldn't you know I now have to do a lot of it.  After weeks of insane knee pain I finally made an appointment to see a sports medicine doctor over at the Sports Enhancement Center.  Turns out I have severe tendonitis in my knee, being caused by my hamstring, due to lack of flexibility.  The doctor told me to quit running completely for a month, and he told me I was overweight.  (LOOOONG story about that.  Maybe I'll have a post on it sometime.)  I then proceeded to cry which caused a very awkward moment (more so for him than me...you should have seen the look on his face).  So three days after my post about hating stretching and cross training it's thrown right in my face.  I am stretching everyday and doing the elliptical for an hour every morning.  I have a race next weekend that I'm running even though the doctor said not to.  Going against the doctor's orders is my form of being rebellious!  I'
