Quality Time

Workout: 2 miles/15:58

I generally don't spend a lot of quality time with my dad.  Not because I don't have a good relationship with  him, but because that just isn't something we do.  However, about once a summer my dad and I jump on our bikes, head out into the country, and ride for about 15 miles.  Just me and him; our quality time :)  Even in his old age (he just turned 60) he can stay up with me.  We go at a decent pace and usually have to tackle quite a few hills.  This past bike route was extremely hilly, and when we got home he laid down in the middle of the living room floor for about 10 minutes.  Oops, sorry dad!  Our quality time wasn't suppose to lead to near death :)
A few days later my little sister and I tackled the same course.
Sorry for the blurry picture, but this is in motion.  We started out in Lodge Park going through trails.  I advise helmets when biking back here...eek!
Awww!  A good old fashion midwestern sunset :)
Another midwestern beauty.  A country road lined with corn!!  Oh, and that's my good ole lil' sis!
Okay, so you can't see me because it was really dark.  We were going fast; REALLY fast.  My sister asked me how I was in such good biking shape.  But the truth is fear was making me peddle hard!!  I was totally freaked out.  It was dark, the country, corn, and my imagination got the best of me.  You know, some crazy teenagers joyriding and hitting us, and then throwing our bodies in a ditch.  Yeah, I'm crazy like that.  Then we had to ride over Cry Baby Bridge, and I swear I could hear a baby moaning for help.  I SWEAR!!  Well, maybe it was the hum of a motorcycle off in the distance...maybe!  Anyway, next summer I will stick to riding this course with my dad in the pleasantness of the morning sunshine :)

  1. When you said "Another midwestern beauty" in the third picture, I thought you were talking about me. nope, you were talking about the corn.

  2. beautiful route! I sometimes wish I was a biker -- and I also wish I could do physical stuff like this with one of my parents. My parents are strictly gym rats -- my dad walks or rides to bike equipment. My mom teaches classes. not quite the same experience!

Summer Races

Workout:  3 miles easy - 100% humidity and dew point of 76!!  UGH!! Since fall is here in just a few days I thought I should throw my summer races up on the blog while it is still officially summer!!;) I was pumped about my summer races.  I had a good workout plan in my mind, and I was going to break 23 minutes!!  I was so determined!  Well, I thought I was so determined.  But, I guess I wasn't that  determined because things fell apart pretty quick.  There was vacation, and then our cruise, and then traveling up to Illinois.  And although I could have run during all these events, well,  I didn't.  OOPS!! Fisher Fair 5k I ran this race with my brother, and this was his first race in 20 years!!  It was really cool to run it with him, and to see him get back into running.  I actually only ran "with him" for about 7 steps, and then he took off. Mile 1 -7:34  Yeah, way too fast.  I'm actually pretty good a...

A little mommy rant!

Workout: HIIT download/2mile run Okay moms, I hate being bombarded in every parent's magazine and internet article about all these super star moms.  You know, the moms  that feed their kids organic food, only let their children play educational games, and make their two year old do service projects. You can judge and put your nose up in the air about me, but that is totally okay, because I judge you, too!!!   Seriously, I want to throw my greasy hamburger in their face and tell them to shove it.  My kids are awesome, healthy, happy, and enjoy life.  And I enjoy the things I do being their mom.  It is totally okay to: 1.   let my kids eat McDonald's french fries.  2.   let my children watch cartoons....right smack dab in front of the t.v.  3.  Allow them to drink  a late night polar pop!!  I believe this is Dr. Pepper. 4.  iPad games instead of story time at bed!! I don't care that these things...

Running on a break

Workout:  30 minute run - 10 minutes easy, 15 minutes hard, 5 minutes easy.  Ab work Running I decided to take a break from running.  My knee had been bothering me, and all my runs felt sluggish.  After a lot of going back and forth I decided that maybe a little bit of a running break was what I needed.  The funny thing is that I am kinda still running while "on a break".  So, the day after I decided to take a break I signed up for 2 races.  Oops!  Ok, one race isn't until December so that doesn't count.  But, the other race is this Saturday.  I have been running 2 - 3 days a week.  Just easy 25-30 minute runs.  Basically, just enough survive the 5K.  The race should pretty much be torture.  I am NOT in race shape at all!  And it has been HOT!! Yeah!!  I'm talking sweat dripping, eyes burning, seriously can't see a thing HOT!!!  I would have jumped in the lake behind me here,  but I saw a m...
