Turkey Day 5K

Workout:  None

Thanksgiving morning my husband and I ran a 5K in his hometown of Evansville, IN.  I truely had no clue what to expect or how to set a goal due to the following:
*knee pain
*ankle pain
*2 weeks of no running prior to the race
*crazy cold temps

Originally I wanted to break 24 minutes.  But now I didn't know if that was possible.  I have to admit that I was most concerned about the weather.  I don't run well in extreme cold and southern IN, just like the rest of the midwest, was FREEZING...I think about 18 degrees that morning.  I slept awful the night of the race because I kept trying to figure out a realistic goal.  I finally decided sometime during the night that if I could keep it just under an 8 minute pace I would be happy.
Then, morning came, and I realized I forgot to pack my Garmin.  Crap!  Now I was going to have to run by feel.  And instead of freaking out I reminded myself that I ran that way for the first 16 years of my running life.:))

Ah, yes, the selfie.  Note to self:  throw some mascara on next time!!  I can't stand it when women look all cute at races, but I really do look awful.  Ok, anyway....
It turns out running by feel is totally my thing.  I felt awesome!  I used my phone so I could have mile splits because when it comes to running I like accurate stats.

This was a post baby PR!!!  I was so excited!  I'm not quite sure how I pulled off that time.  I suppose I have to thank that awesome 5k advanced training program I found in an old issue of Runner's World (which will now and forever be my training program for all 5Ks).  My previous post baby PR was 23:48 which was 4 years ago!
I think I am most excited about this time because it gave me hope.  That maybe I can actually get my pre-baby speed back.  It is totally within reach!!

And guess who else got a PR?

There's my hubby coming in just a few minutes behind me.  He ran a 25-something and killed his old PR!!  We had a great time, and can't wait to run this one again!
Here are results:

Workout:  8 miles/1:25:02 It takes 9 months to put the weight on, and it took 9 months and 6 days to get the weight off.  FINALLY!!!!!!  I am at my pre-Orlando weight.  I gained 40 whopping pounds during my second pregnancy, and I am ecstatic to say that I have now lost 41.  I worked extremely hard to get that darn baby weight off, and there were several times I didn't think I was going to be able to do it.  Thankfully, my determination won in the end.  I have expressed before on my blog that I am not a healthy eater.  Junk food is my good friend, and fruits and veggies are evil gross!! (Okay, not ALL fruits, but pretty much ALL veggies are evil.) So how did I do it?  I cut out a lot of carbs.  Not completely, but I closely monitored my carb intake.  I limited my Coke and McDonald's Sweet Tea splurges and tried to drink these sugary beverages only on weekends.  I discovered Crystal Light Pink Lemonade which I drink during th...

Setting Goals

I'm always setting goals for myself.  Running goals, nutritional goals, cleaning goals, etc. (That last one is always a challenge.)  I set goals so I have something to work towards; an everyday challenge to conquer.  A couple of weeks ago I thought about what type of new goals I wanted to make.  I started by thinking of a running goal.  I needed something that would be challenging, yet achievable.  I decided I would challenge myself by trying to run at least 20 miles a week. Next, I wanted to set some nutritional goals.  Anyone close to me knows that I eat like crap.  Total crap!  In fact, I honestly can not remember the last time I had a piece of fruit.  I have just a few more pounds of baby weight to lose and I know eating better would definitely get it off.  So I set a goal to make wiser food choices and cut back on my snacking.  But late in the week I discovered a couple things about my goals. The first is, don't make ru...

A little mommy rant!

Workout: HIIT download/2mile run Okay moms, I hate being bombarded in every parent's magazine and internet article about all these super star moms.  You know, the moms  that feed their kids organic food, only let their children play educational games, and make their two year old do service projects. You can judge and put your nose up in the air about me, but that is totally okay, because I judge you, too!!!   Seriously, I want to throw my greasy hamburger in their face and tell them to shove it.  My kids are awesome, healthy, happy, and enjoy life.  And I enjoy the things I do being their mom.  It is totally okay to: 1.   let my kids eat McDonald's french fries.  2.   let my children watch cartoons....right smack dab in front of the t.v.  3.  Allow them to drink  a late night polar pop!!  I believe this is Dr. Pepper. 4.  iPad games instead of story time at bed!! I don't care that these things...
