A Nightmare Come True

Workout: 4 miles/35:01

This run was suppose to be special.  I had waited all week to go running down one of the most gorgeous roads in FL.  I was excited, yes EXCITED, to head out and just run for about and hour while looking at views of the ocean, gorgeous palm trees, and magnificent houses.
I was looking the complete opposite of Frumpy Runner; sporting my brand new running outfit that I basically got for free at the Addidas outlet.  My trusty Garmin was charged, I looked good, and it wasn't too hot yet.  This was going to be awesome!!
My journey began here.   Those of you that are friends with me on FB may recognize this picture.  I had just got to Bonita Springs Beach.  At this point I am having a runner's high, and I haven't even started running yet.  Little did I know this high would only last about 3/4 a mile.  I set out for my jog along the beach thinking it would be fun listening to the water, but my legs didn't think this was so much fun.  After a measly quarter of a mile I had to give up due to the mighty effort it took to run on sand.  I headed across the street to the sidewalk not too bummed.  Now I had a view of the trillion dollar homes that lined the beach.

This is where the nightmare begins.  So the set up looked like this: ocean, homes on the ocean, road, then the sidewalk across the street.  To the right of the sidewalk was some Everglade looking swamp stuff.  I was most likely fine, but I kept my eyes glued to the ground looking out for gators and snakes.  For some reason I decided to take a quick glance up and I see something in the palm tree hanging over the sidewalk.  What is that?  It's freaking huge!  What the crap is that?  Oh my gosh...it's a SPIDER!!!

It is hanging directly over the sidewalk off the palm tree.  And it is as big as the palm of my hand!!

I am NOT running under that thing.  Okay, I will turn around and just run back the other direction.  I look down the sidewalk and up at the palm trees and in EVERY TREE hanging down over the sidewalk are 2-3 of these spiders.  What???  I just ran about a half mile with these things dangling over my head.  I scream, jump around, and I don't know what to do!!  Seriously, I don't know what to do!  I'm trapped; surrounded by GIANT SPIDERS.  This is a nightmare come true!!!  I look up and down the sidewalk and they are everywhere!  At this point I think I am going to throw up.  I honest to goodness thought I would hurl all over the sidewalk.  I finally make a mad dash under one tree, get into the safety of the middle of the road, jog back to the beach, and call my husband (still feeling like I am going to throw up!).

I ended up finishing my run in this neighborhood:
And I didn't see one spider in any of the palm trees....and haven't seen one since.  I took Matt back to the location that evening to show him.  Even he was creeped out! ( He got out of the car and got that picture for me.)  Hmmm, maybe I should submit my story to I Shouldn't Be Alive :)

  2. I am not laughing. I am terrified right along with you and will probably have nightmares tonight. I seriously got goosebumps all over just reading your post! Juan told me that there are fewer mosquitos and spiders in Alaska, and it's almost enough to make me want to move there and deal with the cold!

  3. Being afraid of the gators makes me laugh out loud (and brings back a couple of memories), but I'm right there with you on the spiders. I'd be screaming my lungs out!

A little mommy rant!

Workout: HIIT download/2mile run Okay moms, I hate being bombarded in every parent's magazine and internet article about all these super star moms.  You know, the moms  that feed their kids organic food, only let their children play educational games, and make their two year old do service projects. You can judge and put your nose up in the air about me, but that is totally okay, because I judge you, too!!!   Seriously, I want to throw my greasy hamburger in their face and tell them to shove it.  My kids are awesome, healthy, happy, and enjoy life.  And I enjoy the things I do being their mom.  It is totally okay to: 1.   let my kids eat McDonald's french fries.  2.   let my children watch cartoons....right smack dab in front of the t.v.  3.  Allow them to drink  a late night polar pop!!  I believe this is Dr. Pepper. 4.  iPad games instead of story time at bed!! I don't care that these things...

Summer Races

Workout:  3 miles easy - 100% humidity and dew point of 76!!  UGH!! Since fall is here in just a few days I thought I should throw my summer races up on the blog while it is still officially summer!!;) I was pumped about my summer races.  I had a good workout plan in my mind, and I was going to break 23 minutes!!  I was so determined!  Well, I thought I was so determined.  But, I guess I wasn't that  determined because things fell apart pretty quick.  There was vacation, and then our cruise, and then traveling up to Illinois.  And although I could have run during all these events, well,  I didn't.  OOPS!! Fisher Fair 5k I ran this race with my brother, and this was his first race in 20 years!!  It was really cool to run it with him, and to see him get back into running.  I actually only ran "with him" for about 7 steps, and then he took off. Mile 1 -7:34  Yeah, way too fast.  I'm actually pretty good a...

Pregnancy, Fitness, and Food

Workout:  None...yet.  But I might later.  Which is what I've been saying everyday for about the past 3 weeks!!! Hey, you all!!!!!  Guess who decided to reappear?!?!  And guess what I've been up to?  Just cooking up a little boy in this belly of mine! So, I'm 30 weeks pregnant, (31 according to the docs, but whatever) and NOTHING has gone as planned.  And when I say NOTHING I am referring to diet and exercise.  First, I had plans of running as long as I could.  My goal was to run to at least 32 - 34 weeks pregnant.  I made it to 6 weeks, folks.    6 WEEKS!!!  Then, the morning sickness hit, and it hit hard!!!!  I was sick all day and all night.  I was so crazy miserable.  And it didn't go away at the end of the first trimester.  It lasted a good 18 weeks!  Once I started feeling better I decided to just work on staying toned.  I was in the gym lifting weights about 3 days a week.  ...
