Lyla Turns 4!

Workout:  None - but tomorrow morning it is suppose to be 50 degrees!  I haven't run in temps below the 80s in MONTHS! My little spunky ball of cuteness turned 4 last Friday!  And what better way to celebrate than bowling! I think she is saying, "check out these  shoes, mama!!", or she could be doing a dance move.  Either way she was totally stoked about bowling with her cousin, Luke. Lyla bowled a 93...with guard rails, but still that is pretty darn good!  I won't mention my score, but I will mention to everyone that the lanes are waxed.  Did everyone know this but me???  Here are some words of wisdom:  Do not try to fetch your child's motionless ball by stepping out into the lane.  Unless, of course, you want everyone laughing at you. Lyla had a wonderful day, and she is already telling me what she wants for her 5th birthday!

A Decent Alternative

Workout: 3 mile run/abs/upper body strength My running partner, Garmin Forerunner 205, is on its last leg.  You never know if it will turn on, if it will get a signal, or if it will read accurately.  I have had it for 6 1/2 years so I can't complain about her failing health.  Unfortunately, we don't have the money right now to purchase a new one so I spent some time researching and hunting for a cheap alternative to get me through the next few months.  I ended up purchasing the Nike+ iPod Sport Kit . This little boy just slips into the pink pocket on my shoe (which I had to purchase separately).  The newest version of the iPod automatically comes with the app already on it.  This thing is basic, basic, basic. I'm not sure about the scientific calculations for a calorie based workout.  There isn't a "settings" button so how on earth would it know when I have burned say, 300 calories.  Obviously it will take me a little bit longer to burn 300 calories th

Getting in a Good Workout

Workout: 3 miles easy Here is the problem with Matt leaving for work at 6...I have to get up and run at 5.  Here is the problem with running at 5 a.m. ...it is still pitch black.  I have run a few times at this hour, but I just don't feel safe.  The entire time I am on edge.  Although temperature wise this is the PERFECT time to run I am not comfortable with it.  I could always run in the evenings, but after spending all day with the two little ones I usually don't have the energy.  That means I am stuck working out around 3:30. Here is the problem with running at 3:30....it is BLAZING hot!!!  And while most palm trees can make anything look good they don't provide any shade!  I mean check out this tree by my house: Um, yeah, so not only is this one ugly palm tree, but it isn't anywhere near the sidewalk, and even if it were, it pretty much only provides enough shade for a few ants.  So down the road I slowly trot wiping the sweat from my burning eyes every 7 sec
