Quality Time

Workout: 2 miles/15:58 I generally don't spend a lot of quality time with my dad.  Not because I don't have a good relationship with  him, but because that just isn't something we do.  However, about once a summer my dad and I jump on our bikes, head out into the country, and ride for about 15 miles.  Just me and him; our quality time :)  Even in his old age (he just turned 60) he can stay up with me.  We go at a decent pace and usually have to tackle quite a few hills.  This past bike route was extremely hilly, and when we got home he laid down in the middle of the living room floor for about 10 minutes.  Oops, sorry dad!  Our quality time wasn't suppose to lead to near death :) A few days later my little sister and I tackled the same course. Sorry for the blurry picture, but this is in motion.  We started out in Lodge Park going through trails.  I advise helmets when biking back here...eek! Awww!  A good old fashion midwestern sunset :) Another midwestern beauty

A Minimal Move

Workout: None Our move to Florida was very sudden and hectic.  We had just over 30 days from the time Matt got offered the job until the time he had to start his new job to plan this move.  After a few small arguments discussions we decided to get rid of everything, yes EVERYTHING, and make a fresh clean start in Florida.  We had a garage sale, sold our big furniture on craigslist, and took loads, and loads, and loads of stuff to Goodwill. When it was all said and done we were left with one pile in our garage. Our three bedroom 2 bath house that was completely filled; and this is what we left with!!  Until our house sells we will be staying with my sister, but after that we are renting furnished until we are ready to buy. For those of you that are curious; here is Matt's school. Totally Florida, right?  He is teaching Web Design, and here is his classroom. Well, this is part of his classroom.  It took 3 pictures for him to show me the whole thing, but this 1 is good enough f

Where is the Love?

Workout: Hoping to run this evening! As many of you know I had to fly solo with my two little ones down to Florida.  I knew it would be awful.   I knew it, knew it, knew it!!  I won't give you every agonizing detail, but I will tell you the parts that made me want to punch people in the face! After waiting in the world's smallest airport for 4 hours I finally started making my way through security.  I have 3 carry on bags, a diaper bag, a 3 year old, and a 1 year old.  One of my bags falls over, and the family behind me....a family of 3 ADULTS looks right at me, ALL THREE OF THEM, and go around me!  You have got to be kidding me??  No offers to pick up the bag.  No offers to put my heavy luggage on the belt.  Not one ounce of help through security from ANYONE.  I pick the bag up, get it with the other 3 bags on, take off Lyla's shoes, tell her about 100 times to stay next to mommy or get up off the floor, get my shoes off, find my license, and get through.  With no help

Bastille Day 5K

Workout: 2.5 mile run One of my talents is that I'm pretty good at persuading people to try new things.  This last effort of mine actually took a couple of years, but after many phone calls I FINALLY talked my SIL, Bekah, into running her first race ever!!!  We chose the Bastille Day 5K which was held right across from Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago.  I thought this was a good choice because of the location and because it was an evening race.  How cool!!  Here is how everything went down: Our pre-race meal.  We ate at RJ Grunts and our dinners were huge!!  This was only about 2 hours until race time, and guess what?  I ate two meals!!  The waitress brought me out the wrong order, but I had already finished most of the first meal.  She gave me the second meal and I ate that, too.  Yeah, I was regretting that around mile 2.  *Note to all:  This is not a habit of mine, eating LARGE portions of food before a race.  I'm not really sure what we were thinking. You go girll!  Stretch

Orlando's First Run!

Workout:  2 miles with jogging stroller This was Orlando's first time in the jogging stroller!  He did such a great job; just talked, moaned, then fell asleep.  Running with him is ten times easier than running with Lyla which means he may become my new running partner. This morning my sister walks upstairs, and the first thing she says to me is, "It is so beautiful and cool outside.  You have got to go for a run!"  I was planning on running this evening, but if she was willing to watch Lyla for me then I wasn't going to pass up the chance to get my workout out of the way.  I was out the door in just a few minutes (Orlando was still in his jammies) and the time was 8:10.  I didn't realize this run was going to be a learning experience, but that is what it turned out to be. 1.  My sister lies.  Okay, I guess you could call this cool if you lived on  the sun, but as far as I know, this could be equivalent to running through Hell. 2.  Wear sunscreen on all runs
