Twilight 5K

Workout:  None

Another 5K is done and in the books.  I wasn't disappointed in how I ran, but I was disappointed in my lack of training.  I guess frustrated with my training is a better word.  See, I have been doing  A LOT of icing lately.  My knee is hurting pretty bad.  It has been hurting within my first few strides of a run so training has been pretty minimal.  Anyway,  it was an evening race which I hate for one reason....eating.  I don't eat before morning races.  But when your race starts at 6:30 p.m. you have to eat a little something.  So I chose this:

The southwest chicken salad from Chik-Fil-A.  It was really good...highly recommend it!  And it settled in my stomach pretty well, too! :)

Pre-race was crazy!  The kids were a handful, and there wasn't a whole lot for them to do.  We tried to get some photos, but....
Lyla wouldn't cooperate! And then when she did....
Orlando got grumpy!  Thanks kids for the fabulous pictures!!

The race started on time (thank goodness) and I settled into a comfortable pace.  My knee hurt, but the advil that I took 30 minutes earlier kicked in around the .5 mile mark.   Mile 1 was 7:39.  I took it back a notch for mile 2 knowing that I wasn't in good enough shape to maintain that pace.  Mile 2 was 7:59.  At this point I felt sick.  I was pushing myself as hard as I could!  I was really proud of myself here, though, because as tired as I was and as sick as I felt I kept pushing it.  I didn't let my pace slow down.  Mile 3 was 7:57.  The last .1 mile of a 5K I usually kick it in real hard.  Being a sprinter I have a pretty good kick and usually pass a handful of people, but this time I had to hold back.  I knew that if I kicked it in I would throw up.  Yeah, I felt that sick!!  In the end my garmin read 3.16 miles.  My garmin time and my official time matched up exactly the same...I don't think that ever happens!  24:51

Results: age division (30-34):  4 out of 112
              women: 33 out of 738
             overall:  160 out of 1278

The post race was amazing and if Orlando hadn't been so awful we would have stayed a while.  Matt didn't get any pictures of me in action because Orlando cried almost the entire time.  My next race is the Steamboat Classic.  Worlds fastest 4 mile course!!!  June 16 in Peoria, IL.  And hopefully we can leave the kids with my parents!

Workout:  8 miles/1:25:02 It takes 9 months to put the weight on, and it took 9 months and 6 days to get the weight off.  FINALLY!!!!!!  I am at my pre-Orlando weight.  I gained 40 whopping pounds during my second pregnancy, and I am ecstatic to say that I have now lost 41.  I worked extremely hard to get that darn baby weight off, and there were several times I didn't think I was going to be able to do it.  Thankfully, my determination won in the end.  I have expressed before on my blog that I am not a healthy eater.  Junk food is my good friend, and fruits and veggies are evil gross!! (Okay, not ALL fruits, but pretty much ALL veggies are evil.) So how did I do it?  I cut out a lot of carbs.  Not completely, but I closely monitored my carb intake.  I limited my Coke and McDonald's Sweet Tea splurges and tried to drink these sugary beverages only on weekends.  I discovered Crystal Light Pink Lemonade which I drink during th...

Setting Goals

I'm always setting goals for myself.  Running goals, nutritional goals, cleaning goals, etc. (That last one is always a challenge.)  I set goals so I have something to work towards; an everyday challenge to conquer.  A couple of weeks ago I thought about what type of new goals I wanted to make.  I started by thinking of a running goal.  I needed something that would be challenging, yet achievable.  I decided I would challenge myself by trying to run at least 20 miles a week. Next, I wanted to set some nutritional goals.  Anyone close to me knows that I eat like crap.  Total crap!  In fact, I honestly can not remember the last time I had a piece of fruit.  I have just a few more pounds of baby weight to lose and I know eating better would definitely get it off.  So I set a goal to make wiser food choices and cut back on my snacking.  But late in the week I discovered a couple things about my goals. The first is, don't make ru...

A little mommy rant!

Workout: HIIT download/2mile run Okay moms, I hate being bombarded in every parent's magazine and internet article about all these super star moms.  You know, the moms  that feed their kids organic food, only let their children play educational games, and make their two year old do service projects. You can judge and put your nose up in the air about me, but that is totally okay, because I judge you, too!!!   Seriously, I want to throw my greasy hamburger in their face and tell them to shove it.  My kids are awesome, healthy, happy, and enjoy life.  And I enjoy the things I do being their mom.  It is totally okay to: 1.   let my kids eat McDonald's french fries.  2.   let my children watch cartoons....right smack dab in front of the t.v.  3.  Allow them to drink  a late night polar pop!!  I believe this is Dr. Pepper. 4.  iPad games instead of story time at bed!! I don't care that these things...
