10k Race Review

This past Saturday I ran in the Christie Clinic 10k over in Champaign, IL.  It would be my first run in almost 3 weeks so I really didn't know what to expect.  The last time I ran my knee hurt so bad I had to stop after a half mile.  Now I had to run just over 6!!!

I didn't walk to the start line until just before the race because of the cold temp and crazy wind.  I took three Aleve for knee pain, jumped up and down a bit to warm up, and prayed that I could make it the whole race without walking.  The first two miles went really fast, but after that I struggled every step.  Everything annoyed me.  My music, the boring course, the wind, and the girl in front of me that was running like a prancing reindeer!  I really wanted to beat her, but I had no fight in me at the end :(

Overall, I ended up running pretty well.  I was 95% satisfied with my performance.  Here are the official results:
 Time:  50:29/8:04 pace
Overall place: 107 out of 1755
 Women: 22 out of 1211
Age Division: 4 out of 206

26 days until the Soldier Field 10 Mile.  Can't wait for that one!

Workout:  8 miles/1:25:02 It takes 9 months to put the weight on, and it took 9 months and 6 days to get the weight off.  FINALLY!!!!!!  I am at my pre-Orlando weight.  I gained 40 whopping pounds during my second pregnancy, and I am ecstatic to say that I have now lost 41.  I worked extremely hard to get that darn baby weight off, and there were several times I didn't think I was going to be able to do it.  Thankfully, my determination won in the end.  I have expressed before on my blog that I am not a healthy eater.  Junk food is my good friend, and fruits and veggies are evil gross!! (Okay, not ALL fruits, but pretty much ALL veggies are evil.) So how did I do it?  I cut out a lot of carbs.  Not completely, but I closely monitored my carb intake.  I limited my Coke and McDonald's Sweet Tea splurges and tried to drink these sugary beverages only on weekends.  I discovered Crystal Light Pink Lemonade which I drink during th...

Kick Him in the Face REAL Hard!

Now, remember, this made the list of top 10 things I hate.  And wouldn't you know I now have to do a lot of it.  After weeks of insane knee pain I finally made an appointment to see a sports medicine doctor over at the Sports Enhancement Center.  Turns out I have severe tendonitis in my knee, being caused by my hamstring, due to lack of flexibility.  The doctor told me to quit running completely for a month, and he told me I was overweight.  (LOOOONG story about that.  Maybe I'll have a post on it sometime.)  I then proceeded to cry which caused a very awkward moment (more so for him than me...you should have seen the look on his face).  So three days after my post about hating stretching and cross training it's thrown right in my face.  I am stretching everyday and doing the elliptical for an hour every morning.  I have a race next weekend that I'm running even though the doctor said not to.  Going against the doctor's orders is my...

100 Calories

Workout:  Lower body strength training I hate to share!  Even if I'm not that hungry I won't split a meal.  I want my own.  I even hate it when Matt takes sips of my drink.  Ugh, if you were thirsty, why didn't you get your own!!!  I hate sharing so much that I don't even like to share with my sweet precious kiddos.  Orlando is always eating my cereal in the morning, and Lyla pretty much wants bites of anything I eat.  Lately, for my afternoon snack I have been eating a Chex Mix 100 calorie snack pack.  With a big glass of Pink Lemonade Crystal Light; it is the perfect snack.  No matter what I give the kids for their snack they always want some of mine.  Okay, listen children, I HATE to share!!  And when I only get 100 measly calories to begin with I want EVERY LAST CRUMB!! Here is Orlando throwing a fit because I won't give him any Chex Mix!  I hate to share, and he hates it when I won't share.  I finally ended u...
